Gay mystery novelist Greg Herren won the Moonbeam Award twice in three years for his “contributions to YA lit”, and, like Nancy Garden, is no stranger to book banning.

His two series for adults, Chanse MacLeod mysteries and the Scotty Bradley adventures, both feature gay private eyes living in New Orleans.

Roxane Gay’s year of reading. The ambition of this novel, the inventive structure and syntax, the grand scope, all make for the most absorbing book I read all year. The characters are so richly drawn, so intimately known by Evaristo, and so perfectly rendered on the page.

This novel is a master class in storytelling. Book it. Three weeks ago, we asked you, readers, to vote on what you thought were the best gay books of all time. The votes are.
